Society member, the Australian broadcaster Ian Maurice, visited the UK recently and interviewed Michael Ball about his role as Sweeney Todd in the Chichester Festival production. He’s given us special permission to use his interview on our website, and you can listen to it by clicking on the Podcast player on our homepage. Enjoy!

Updates to the website

Apologies if you were trying to access the website this morning, but we were making a few changes in order to bring certain things up to date, and streamline other things.

If you’re sharp-eyed, you may have spotted that we have inserted Sir Cameron Mackintosh’s name amongst the list of patrons in the banner at the top of the page.

The other major change concerns the Discussion Board.

The nature of interacting online has been changing over the past few years, and the trend is moving away from the traditional “forum” approach towards more use of social networking tools such as Twitter and Facebook.

In order to keep in step with the evolving patterns, we have decided to discontinue the Discussion Board, and this has now been removed from the site.

Our Twitter account now has well over 700 followers, and it is growing on an almost daily basis. By following us and sending “tweets” you can be sure that information and opinions can be kept dynamically up-to-date and can be seen prominently in the twitter feed on our website. The Society’s new Facebook page is another excellent means of communication, and is ideal if you need a greater amount of characters than that allowed on Twitter.

The web address for the Twitter account is: www.twitter.com/StephenSSociety, and the Facebook page is at http://www.facebook.com/StephenSSociety

Finally, we have removed the link to the old website (“Archive”).  Our statistics have shown that it has had virtually no visitors since the site went live, and therefore we decided that it was simply taking up room on the menu bar. Its presence also had an influence on the speed of the site, so you should find things load a bit faster now we have removed it.

If you are a paid-up member of the Society you should have a password to the members area of the website. From here you can read the latest magazine online (either using the convenient “eBook” format which emulates turning the pages of an actual magazine, or from a pdf download).  Over the next few weeks we will be uploading previous editions of the magazine for 2011, and as each new edition comes out we will make that available online too.

If you don’t have a password, you will need to join the Society (which you can also do online by going to the Shop page).
